A Spring Ode to My Mother

Mother, I saw the first  dandelions of this new year and

my heart again makes it journey out to you.

Other delicate early flowers in their multi-coloured islands of joy

framed of fern. forest, stalking heron and air awarble in song

could not distract long from the low warm vibrant yellow glow

of open troves splendoring my Spring dandelions of yore.

Timeless dreams in the weft of beautiful years past:

Snows which crouched in my child youth lost themselves

In winding water moats enlivening the roots

of crocuses hidden harkening velvet rare,

Paled to the dandelion’s milky trumpeting of the sun

where it’s gold of glee and Nature’s love filled my heart

And heralded a delight contained in the hurrying of feet transporting

the bright glory of Spring’s finest offerings home to my Mom.

Yes Mother, I had seen the first dandelions of the new year and

my heart, even now, could not help but go out in love to you.
